A different starting premise.
Most democratic systems were designed around assumptions about who constitutes “the public,” how citizens participate and where political authority resides. But societies have changed. They are more culturally, linguistically, ethnically and socially diverse than many of the institutions governing them were designed to accommodate.
CRED asks whether democratic institutions can evolve by treating this diversity not simply as a challenge to manage, but as a source of democratic knowledge and institutional innovation.
